What did you do this past week?

This past week was significantly less stressful than last. For this class specifically, my team and I have only met up to discuss the game plan for Phase 3. It seems like the biggest thing about it will be implementing the searching, filtering, and sorting. Other than that it’ll be refining the parts we implemented in Phase 2. In other classes, I worked on the Alpha release for an iOS app and worked on weekly homework.

What’s in your way?

The biggest thing in my way right now is not knowing anything about implementing search, filters, and sorting. Once my group and I can figure that out, Phase 3 and the rest of our week will go by much smoother. Besides that, I have a Beta release coming up for another class’s project so splitting my time will be a challenge.

What will you do next week?

My group and I plan on working on Phase 3 tomorrow. We’ll begin with researching and implementing searching, filtering, and sorting. On Wednesday we’ll begin doing all of the unit and acceptance tests. Throughout the whole week we’ll be refining everything else and working out bugs.

If you read it, what did you think of the Dependency Inversion Principle?

I have yet to read the paper for the Dependency Inversion Principle.

What was your experience of +, *, ** and decorators? (this question will vary, week to week)

I followed along with all of the examples during class, but I still feel shaky on the them. The exercises helped a little, but I had a hard time figuring out why the solutions my groups came up with worked. I’m planning on reviewing the Zoom lecture recordings so that I can solidify the material.

What made you happy this week?

Not working on Phase 3 for this class made me happy. I know that now I have less time to work on it, but this class is my biggest stress. When I can get a break from it I’m really happy. I also got to hang out with some old friends and that was nice. I’m hoping I can see them more once the semester is over.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is to review the recordings for our lectures if you still feel unsure about the material. I know that what we study in class doesn’t directly apply to our project, but I think it’s some of the most valuable information I’ve learned in these past four years. I’m very happy I’m taking this class in my last semester of college because it makes me feel better prepared for the real world. Anyways, if you feel like you didn’t quite get the examples the first time around, give it a second try. I recommend adjusting the speed so that you don’t have to spend almost a whole hour on it again.
